Miles for July

After a lower mileage month in June, I decided I needed a plan. I worked out my training program and posted my calendar on my refrigerator. This helped me tremendously and held me accountable. I also upped my Thursday evening runs to 6 miles. At a glance, I was able to see what runs lied ahead for me ... and what I'd already accomplished.

I did a lot of running with Little Diva on her bike (We even did a six miler!). And the family and I also went on a few four member treks around our neighborhood. The kids really enjoy the time together and I'm able to get in my miles. Awesome!

I had 166 miles planned for the month of July and only 4 rest days. I realized half-way through the month that my legs were trashed and needed rest. Even though I was able to fit in 6 runs a week and could work them into my family's schedule, it wasn't working for my body. My legs carried me a through a s-l-o-w 10 mile race on July 24th. During the last week of July, while on a "stay"cation, I decided to do a longer run midweek and take off a couple of days leading up to the Chicago Rock and Roll Half Marathon, that would occur on the first day of the following month. Hopefully my legs will welcome the rest.

I crossed the 800 and 900 mileage markers this month and am thrilled.

July: 150.5
June: 101.8
May: 163.9
April: 145.2
March: 115.9
February: 116.7
January: 132.5

Total for 2010: 926.5

Miles 'til 1,400 mileage goal: 473.5

Total Rest Days in July: 4 planned / 7 taken

Long Runs in July: 10, 20, 10, 9

tell you this month?

Spectating Races with the Kids

With hubby and I both racing all summer long ... the kiddos get to bet quite the little professionals at spectating. Though they don't look forward to getting up before dawn on race day, they DO enjoy staying at hotels, seeing new cities, swimming, seeing new parks, snacking and cheering on mom and dad.

As we are currently packing to head down to Chicago for the Rock-n-Roll Half Marathon this weekend, I'm getting hubby's "survival bag" together. It's almost as much work for the spouse that is spectating!!!

Here are some things that I like to do to keep us all sane ....

I also like to take a lot of plastic shopping bags along to discard trash. I typically tie one or two to our stroller. When a garbage can isn't handy, it's a great way to get empty wrappers, packaging and such out of site.
Visit the Dollar Store and stock up on cheap toys and treats that will grab their interest. These are super affordable and you won't care if they get distroyed or left behind. Something new will always intrigue them more. You can also scour your bin of McDonald's toys that they haven't played with in awhile and find some rediscovered treasures.
This time I even went so far to take most of the items out of their packaging, so that the parent doesn't need to deal with the junk. I also took a plastic bag and labeled it with each of the kids' names. I put treasures inside for each of them, so that there is no fighting (hopefully!).

Since we will have a few hours of driving on our hands, I visited the local library and got several books that they can read in the car as well as some videos they've never seen. Hopefully this keeps our trip quiet in the minivan.
Snacks, lots and lots of snacks!! They kids seem to snack all morning long while we are spectating races. Here are some of our (mostly healthy) favorites:
  • Yogurt
  • String Cheese
  • Individual bags of Chips and Pretzels
  • Premade PB&J Sandwiches
  • Berries
  • Juice Boxes
  • Bottled Water and Crystal Light Packets
  • Lunchables

Have them cheer you on in style and be your own personal fan club. Have custom fan club shirts made or order some directly from Family Fan Club (HERE). Get the kids their own cowbells and noisemakers, so that they can cheer everyone on. I purchased these noisemakers from the Target Dollar bin over the past few years. When they aren't tossing them in the street, it helps keep them entertained as they watch everyone pass them by and look for you in the crowd.
Some other miscellaneous items I like to bring along:
  • Beach towels (blankets tend to be too bulky to tote around)
  • Baby wipes and tissue
  • Hand santizer
  • Extra clothes and jackets (they always get super dirty race morning!)
Race day can be long for everyone ... especially when it's a "big city" race and there isn't a park in site!!! I'm always looking for more ideas.
How do you keep
the kids entertained
on race day??

Today is Mommy Day .....

Usually "mommy day" is what Little Dude yells out in the morning when he realizes it's my day off of work and he can come in bed and snuggle with me and we can spend a fun day with his sister .... but not today ....
Once or twice a year I will take an entire week off of work. Since I only work three days a week, I get about a week and a half of freedom, along with the kiddos. It's pure fun. Since we have to pay for daycare, whether they are there or not, I tend to leave them in daycare for one day and spend the day by myself, doing whatever I want. I feel a bit guilty when they head out the door (they both have field trips/water day today anyhow), but it is a great way to recharge and occupy my time with some things that I love and enjoy ...
Nine hours of freedom. It is really strange to think that I only have one or two days a year ... alone in my own home. I am such a multi-tasker that my mind is still thinking of what I can do next. It kind of eerie here ... and soooo quiet.
I've already logged nine miles on this beautiful morning.
Here are other ways I will indulge myself today (that are also friendly with our budget!):
  • Use a Starbuck's gift card at the Target Starbuck's (Tall Skinny Caramel Latte, please!) and pick up some things we need at Target ... without anyone asking for anything from the Dollar Bin or an Icee upon check-out
  • Use some gift cards at the mall with no stroller and no interruptions.
  • Get a lunch at the foodcourt that doesn't consist of sharing someone's Happy Meal.
  • Run errands without worrying about if anyone is buckled up or has left the door ajar.
  • Listen to my own music in the mini van ... no Sponge Bob Square Pants playing in the background on the DVD player.
  • A much needed haircut. Enough said.

I will pick them up early, refreshed and eager to see their cute, smiling faces. Hopefully they are just as eager to see me!! :-)

I better get going ... only seven hours to go ...

Today's after workout glow ...
Nine Miles d-o-n-e ...
Nine Hours to Do Whatever I want!

What would you do with
a whole day to yourself??

Fox River Socks Product Review & Giveaway

I was recently given the opportunity to test out a pair of Fox River Socks. I chose pink (of course!) and was sent a light weight pair of running socks in size Large (go Team Big Foot!) to try out.

Visit the Fox River Mills website (HERE) and start shopping!! Their socks are made in the USA!

I love that they are nearly in my back yard!!

Since its beginning in the Fox River Valley of Appleton, Wisconsin, in 1900, Fox River Mills, Inc. (now based in Osage, Iowa) has been committed to producing quality knitted socks and handwear. Fox River was founded on the principle of offering a superior product with great service at a fair price. Today, Fox River Mills in one of the leading outdoor, athletic, and lifestyle sock manufacturers in the world.

Check out their website for a lot of interesting FOOT FACTS (HERE). I bet you didn't know that feet sweat about 10-15 gallons per foot per year, and 5-8 gallons of that perspiration gets absorbed by socks.

Special features of the Light Weight Running Socks I tried:
  • Wick-Dry to keep your feet dry and comfortable
  • Mesh on top and under toes for flexibility and ventilation
  • Smooth, flat, strong toe seam
  • Dimensional knit for a women's fit
  • Spandex arch support helps hold sock in place

When I first put the socks on for the first time, they were a little bunchy, near the heal. With some adjusting, they were completely fine and didn't slip during my run. But I was a little concerned at first. I believe the sizing was fine (I wear a women's size 10 running shoe). I think that the height of the sock was a lot taller/higher than I'm use to. And, it just took some getting use to.

Even though these were labeled "light weight", these socks were definitely a great balance between thickness (padding) and thiness (light-weight). I'm not sure if they offered the same padding as some of my other running socks (to prevent blisters in my hot spots -- on the inside of the front of my feet), but they were definitely comfortable and stayed in place.

I've now worn these socks three times and they've washed up fine wear-after-wear. I love that they are pink and fun to wear. As already mentioned, these are a little higher than I'm use to wearing, but the only difference I see is a higher tan line!!

These socks are made from sustainable resources like plants and recycled waste, as well as recycled polyester. How cool is that???!!!!

Fox River Socks also has an awesome Soldiers Program. Read all about it (HERE).

Shop from their soldier-supplied wish lists to send socks to US deployed troops, including a personal message of support. Fox River pays the shipping cost on these orders! For rugged conditions, Fox River socks provide comfort and durability these soldiers want and need. Blessings to our soldiers!

Waunafest 10 Miler 2010 Race Report

On Saturday I ran my third 10 mile race at the Waunafest Run in Waunakee, Wisconsin. There are tons of events for the whole family at Waunafest all weekend long. The event included a 10 mile run, 5K run and a 2 mile walk.

The race started at 7:30 am. It rained a TON over the past two days and the night before. It was pretty dark when I woke up at 5:50, but nothing was falling from the sky. I would welcome cloud cover! We decided that the family would come along to cheer me on. We arrived to pick up my packet and parked right near the door at the community center. The restrooms inside were empty and it was awesome to use nice, clean facilities (twice!).

Pre-Race with Little Diva

The large cannon went off at 7:30 and boy was it loud! I forget about it every year!

The routes were slightly different this year, due to road construction. Most of the route seemed to be the same, except between 6 - 7.5, and we started facing the opposite direction and took a slightly different approach than last year.

We headed through the industrial park and through a nice, newer neighborhood that has lots of young kids with their own water stations and sprinklers. I always love seeing their excitement as you take a cup from their hands. There is also a cute, little bridge that we ran through. There are quite a few (may five?) decent hills along the course. I typically don't mind hills so much ... I just approach them with quick, little steps.

My pace was just over 9:00 min miles which made me feel slow. I was running much slower than last year. I wasn't feeling tired or sick and I didn't have side-stitches. I was just s-l-o-w. But, I was enjoying myself. I do realize that running three times, and a total of 20 miles, on Sunday was probably not the best decision. I was doing this race as a "training run" ... but yeah, you know that never happens when you show up for race day!!! I am on target for about 160 miles this month and have only taken off 4 days in July. Sooo .... my legs are definitely trashed, I guess.

I realized that I ran with mostly men the entire race and approximately the same 10 guys the whole way. I'd pass them, then they'd pass me. I often found myself running solo and not in a pack of runners.

As I approached the last half mile, I heard a guy yell my name. I turned around to see who it was, and he said, "Hey Jamie, I read your blog!". I couldn't believe it!!! What?!?! I slowed down a bit to chat with him, since he was behind me. We talked for the last part of the race. His name was Jason (**Hey, Jason!!**), he was way off pace, too. He said that he had also recognized me in the mass sea of people at Crazylegs, but didn't say anything. I guess we apparently run the same identical pace?!?! ... or my Bondi Bands stand out in a crowd?!? :-) Crazy. He asked if my family was there and then I saw the kiddos and hubby cheering me on towards the finish line. Jason and I came in together. Good luck at Chicago Marathon, Jason!!

Running with a pack of dudes
along the entire course
including at the finish
My chip time was 1:31:35. I was VERY disappointed in my time, since I was five whole minutes off of my time last year. (and six minutes off of my 10 mile race PR) Last year I ran several half marathons and my only long runs were pretty much the races I ran each month. I realize I need to allow my legs to rest. I've been so concentrated on getting the miles in, that I'm not allowing my legs to recover. I will rest more this week, before the half marathon in Chicago (even though I have the week off of work!!!).
I'm also realizing that I don't like to push myself to uncomfortable places. I like to trot along and enjoy myself. And, I guess there is nothing wrong with that. I will never be fast, but I CAN go the distance. I've proved that to myself time and again. I've never had a DNF. I like to enjoy it ... is there anything wrong with that?!? I kind of feel like if I ever DON'T enjoy it, that I just won't be motivated to do it anymore.
I had always wanted to be
bib #262,
so that I could do this!!
Every year the dude carrying a beer appears on a different colored techinical t-shirt. This year was plain old white. I always order size medium and need to remember just how HUGE these shirts run every year. This will be going to my hubby's collection! We also got Waunafest Run stickers. This year we didn't receive the finishers ribbons that we received in 2009.

Here is how my stats compare from both races. This was my first race in my new age group. My placement is actually pretty similar, despite the five minute chip time difference. The race felt a lot smaller this year, and it appears that there were about 50 less participants than last year.

2010:
Overall: 207/378
Division (F 30-34) : 8/24
Gender: 61/168
Time: 1:31:35
Pace: 9:12

2009:
Overall: 249/424
Division (F 25-29): 9/28
Gender: 77/190
Time: 1:26:30
Pace: 8:39

Want a Free Technical Shirt???

Want a free technical shirt??? Of course you do!

My hubby is hosting his very first giveaway, a Racevine techinical shirt.

Check it out (HERE).

Stuffitts Product Review & Giveaway

I was so psyched to try out Stuffitts Shoe Savers (in pink, of course!) for my stinky running shoes. I'm a "sweaty girl", and my feet (Go Team Big Foot!) are no exception! Mile-after-mile, my sweaty feet pound the pavement, and my Brooks Adrenaline's return home wet and stinky.

Visit Stuffitts Shoe Savers online (HERE) and start shopping. Your running shoes will thank you.

stuffitts are designed to eliminate shoe moisture and odor quickly and effectively. They may look a bit silly at first (Little Diva thought they were some sort of funky sandal!!), they are a soft-foot-shaped insert that are placed inside of your shoes after wearing. Stuffitts come with a detachable strap for carrying around to/from your workouts.

The Stuffitts system uses 100% natural aromatic easter red cedar inserts which wick moisture upon contact and a dual-wick fabric shell exterior. The outer shell can be removed and washed if it becomes too dirty.

When I first took these out of the package, I smelt the cedar immediately. I had flashbacks to our first apartment, that we shared with guinea pigs and hamsters!! But, seriously they smelt good and the size Large fit well into my size 10 womens' running shoes. (Size Large typically fits size 10.5+).

Leaving shoes wet between uses will erode the integrity of the shoe, causing mid-sole deterioration and shortening the length of wear. I guess this make sense, but didn't really think about it. I always thought that only my miles were causing my shoes to near their end-of-service. Who wants to drop another $100+ on another pair of decent running shoes, more often than you need to?! And, these can be used on shoes of the non-running variety, too!

Sprays, powders, gels, insoles and newspaper don't work this effectively!!

I have used my Stuffitts on and off for the past month. I need to remember to use them more frequently and make this an automated part of my training, just like heading out the door for a run. I know that my shoes will benefit. I tend to have stinky feet and have noticed that my shoes don't have as much of a strong odor after wear. I will be curious to see how a new pair of kicks will hold up with the Stuffitts -- since they will be odor-free with the first use.
You'll enjoy the fun colors: royal blue, red, black, light blue and pink (My favorite, of course!). Stuffitts come in sizes S, M, L, and XL. Small size includes kids sizes 12-6. Stock up for Back to School!!! You can also order replacement inserts.

Three Things Thurday

  1. If anyone will be running the Chicago Rock & Roll Half Marathon on August 1, please let me know. I would love to try to meet up. I will be in Corral 7. I hope to PR with 1:55:58. My first full marathon was the Chicago Marathon (2008) and I am eager to run along that awesome crowd support again. It is complete chaos getting downtown for packet pick-up and on race day (6:30 AM start - yawn!). But, it will be well worth it.
  2. This Saturday, I will be running the Waunafest 10 miler. I would love to PR with a 1:25:30. This is my third time running this local race and I am really looking forward to it. The course will be different this year, but should be just as fun. I love the distance.
  3. So far, I ran every mile I had planned for July. I would REALLY suggest putting your training program on your refrigerator. Seriously. Every time I want to skip a run or cut it short, I think about how mad I'll be at myself the next time I go to grab something out to eat. It is really holding me accountable. This week I will have in 50 miles alone! I WILL log 166+ miles this month!! I will, I will!

Why Running is Like My Other Job

  • I need to arrange for daycare just to head out the door.

  • I want to hit the snooze button, when the alarms goes off.

  • I set-out fun, coordinated outfits the night before.

  • I consume large amounts of Diet Mountain Dew and coffee ... before and after.

  • I can't wait for it to be over, so that I can be at home with my family.

  • I look at my watch every two seconds, just to see how much time has gone by.

  • I pack an assortment of goodies and drinks, to keep my energy level high.

  • I have moments of motivation and moments of procrastination.

  • Once I actually get-it-done, I feel much better and wonder why I've procrastinated.

  • I think of my kids every five seconds, but know that they are just fine.

A view from my cubicle.
(you're digging the rhinestone
desk accessories, aren't you?!?!)

Why is running like your other job???
How do you keep it enjoyable, and not just
something else you NEED to do???

My First Triple ... & Half & Half Virtual Race Report

On Saturday night, I had set the alarm for 5:15 am, to get up for my planned 20 miler. I was also going to incorporate a half marathon virtual race, that was being hosted by Neurosis of the Stay at Home Mom of 3 (HERE).

Well, it appears that however more my kids sleep, the more I want to sleep. Yes, I turned the alarm off at 4am. When Little Dude was an infant and I was getting up all night long for feedings, I found it no big deal to get up at 5am on a Sunday afternoon for a 3-4 hour run, when I was training for my first full marathon. Now, they both typically sleep from 8:30pm-7:00am and I can't seem to open my eyes a minute earlier. Anyhow ....

The forecast was close to 90 degrees and humid and a little wind. Hubby had 12 mi planned and I had 20. We decided that we were both going to try to do a double. I headed out first around 10:00 am. I was going to cut my mileage short and run 6 mi in the morning at 6 mi in the evening.
  1. I headed out for my first six miles and ended up running ten. I made a turn around mile four that I knew would force me to do the few extra miles. I passed the bank clock around 11:15 am and it read 86 degrees. I was wasted and my legs were trashed even in the beginning. I felt exhausted and HOT when I arrived home.

    10 miles done

  2. Hubby headed outside for an hour of running. I fed the kids lunch and scarfed down two oranges, that I was really craving out on my run. Then I headed down to the treadmill with the kiddos for a 5K.

    + 3.1 miles done =
    13.1 miles done

This completed Neurosis of the Stay at Home Mom of 3's Half & Half Virtual race (HERE).

  3. Around 7:30 pm, I decided to head out for another 6 miles. My legs actually felt much better than when I started out in the morning. They felt fresh and I felt a bit faster. My first mile was over 30 seconds faster than my first mile earlier in the day. I ran a four mile loop around my neighborhood, stopped home for some water outside, and decided to do a portion of the four mile loop again. I had completed another eight miles for the night.

    + 7 miles done =
    20.1 miles done

This was my first time doing a "triple". It was nice spreading the time commitment throughout the day. I don't think that I necessarily go the mental toughness that a typical 20 mile training run would have, but I did it. I could have cut the miles short several times. But, I kept my commitment to myself. I knew that if I returned home to my training plan on the refrigerator, that I would be disappointed if I hadn't complete all twenty miles I had planned. That's never a good feeling.

After (third) workout glow.

Blue Steel Sports Anti-Chafe Cream Product Review & Giveaway

I was given the opportunity to try out Anti-Chafe Cream from Blue Steel Sports recently. I had only tried Body Glide before for my long runs and did not have experience with other anti-chafing products. I was very excited to try this out.

Visit the Blue Steel Sports website (HERE) and start shopping!

The Anti-Chafe cream protects you against blisters, skin rashes and saddle-sores.

What Blue Steel Sports says on their website:

Any endurance activity is likely to cause painful skin irritation through friction caused by skin rubbing against skin, and clothing rubbing against your skin. Moisture, in the form of perspiration or water, further aggravates the inflamed skin.

BLUE STEEL SPORTS Anti-Chafe cream protects your skin in two ways:

It forms a silky layer on your skin that reduces friction
It creates an effective barrier against moisture
It is long lasting and absolutely not sticky or greasy and won’t burn sensitive skin. It won’t stain your clothing and washes out with soap.

Where do YOU chafe?

Feet - protects against blisters and cracked heels
Inner thigh, groin and buttocks - apply directly to skin to prevent saddle sores
Upper body - under arms, under sports bras, nipples
Face and hands – protects exposed skin against windburn.
Apply to any external areas of your body that are prone to chafing prior to activity. May also be used after activity to assist in recovery of irritated skin.

I have now tried the anti-chafing cream out on two short runs and three long runs. I really, really like that this product isn't sticky. Since it WASN'T STICKY, I wasn't sure how it would protect my thighs from rubbing together. But, it did. I was really pleasantly surprised.

I applied this on my thighs, knees and my underarms. I had absolutely no rubbing and no bleeding during my long runs -- wow!!

I wasn't sure if I'd like the scent of thre tree extract, but it was fine. It was a little "medicinal" at first, but didn't bother me.

There was no residue on my clothes from the cream. It disappeared on my skin, as I rubbed it in and didn't show up on my dark running clothing.

The only thing that I may have (slightly) disliked is that you need to apply it with your hands. Unlike other products, where you apply it directly from the tube/container. I also used a handheld water bottle on a hot ten miler and the mixture of the condensation, sweat and anti-chafing cream on my hands was causing the bottle to be a bit slipper in my hand. That can easily be solved by me washing my hands next time, before heading out the door. No biggie.

Dear Old Lady in my Neighborhood ...

Dear Old Lady in my Neighborhood:

I always end my runs heading up the biggest hill in our neighborhood. Your duplex (and your German Shephard) happen to be at the top of that hill. For the past five years, your dog has always greeted me as I've reached the top of that huge incline. I run against traffic (which is on your side of the street) and your pup always greets me with his teeth and his bark at the top, b-lining it for the curb, until he reaches the electrical fence. I never see you or Old Man in sight.

Last night, I headed out around 9pm for a six miler. I had 3/4 of a mile left, just before 10pm. You may think I'm crazy for being out in the neighborhood that late, but I have priorities, and my kids were in bed. I, however, think you may be crazy. As I approached the hill, I saw you and your dog on the opposite side of the street. You were allowing the pooch to go #2 in a neighbor's lawn. I was already half-way up the hill and decided that I shouldn't turn back ... not sure what the dog was going to do when he saw me.

Your dog decided he could take a break from his duty and charged back across the street at me. Apparently, it's a good thing you have that electrical fence on your side of the street (keep him in your yard!). I appreciated you shuffling your feet back over to your lawn, as I felt the dog breathing on my leg in the middle of the street and I didn't want to move. You called your dog's name three times, but never acknowledged I was there. This didn't happen once, but two more times. Every time I moved, your dog would charge back at me. Freaked out in the dark and being the passive person I am ... I just stood there. (I know, dumb ...) I watched two minutes click by on my stop watch as I waited for you to take your dog and apologize. Still, you said absolutely nothing to me as I ran away.

I hope that I don't encounter you or your dumb dog again, or I may not be so passive next time. I may have back-up, as both of my neighbors are city police. And, they may not be so nice to you either.

Sincerely,

Running Diva Mom

Zerbert Baby Product Review & Giveaway

I was so excited to have the opportunity to work with a wonderful children's company, Zerbert Baby.

Please visit Zerbert Baby online HERE.

At Zerbert Baby, they are passionate about designing unique products for babies and toddlers. Inspired by children's laughter and joy, our collections are stylish, well-crafted and functional. I think that you will agree that the patterns and styles are awesome. You are sure to find something that matches your child's personality!

Little Dude received a personalized "Graham bag". We LOVE personalization in our house! I also love the fact that the bag can go anywhere with him and I don't have to label it. If it gets lost or misplaced, everyone will know who it belongs to.

Little Dude enjoyed filling up his "Graham bag" with toys for one of our outings. It was fun seeing which treasures he put in there.

We've been using the bag as a bag for daycare/preschool. We've been working really hard on potty training (successfully mostly!) and have had a lot of clean and dirty clothes going back and forth from school. This has been a great way for us to keep everything in one spot. And, the teachers know whose clothing it is. No second-guessing.

Little Dude has been obsessed with the magnetic snap closure. He wants to make sure that mommy closes it every time he heads out with his bag and that he doesn't loose any of his belongings! Mommy likes that it keeps everythign inside, too!

Zerbert baby offers several fun fabrics, colors, patterns and styles. I love that they personalize and monogram the bag for your little one, too. Little Dude is starting to recognize his name when he sees it -- so this was FUN!

I wish I would have learned about Zerbert Baby when my kiddos were younger. I would have liked to have many of their awesome baby products.
  • Bibs
  • Burp Cloths
  • Blankees
You NEED to check out their unique bibs. SUPER stylish fabrics for boys and girls, paired with an ultra-soft minky fabric (reversable). Waterproof inner-liner. Quality side-snap for easy on/easy off -- your baby will thank you! Aren't expecting or don't have a little one at home?! These durable bibs make FABULOUS GIFTS!

The "Graham" Bag
Stuffied with undies, diapers, wipes and a water bottle

Prancing Leopard Product Review & Giveaway

I was given the opportunity to review a few items from Prancing Leopard Organics. Prancing Leopard Organics is a fashion-forward yoga, pilates, dance and fitness apparel company that is committed to organic and eco-conscious living.

You can visit Prancing Leopard online ... and start shopping ... HERE. They offer a fantastic line of clothing for men, women and children. You can try everything from tops, bottoms, dresses, hoodies and jumpsuits.

I chose to check out the Cantabria Bottom in Grey (size Medium). This is a uniesex piece and retails for $98. I also chose to sport the Marbella Top in Lilac (size Medium), which retails for $78. I typically wear a medium in my tops and a size 6 or 8 bottom and their size mediums fit me perfectly ... top and bottom.

I wore both pieces on a warm summer day walk with my children and also wore it while running errands around town. I love how versatile both pieces are ... and comfy. Perfect for chasing after the kids and for a light workout.

I paired the Marbella top with a comfy sports bra underneath. The top was super comfy and cool. I loved the asymetric seaming and how it snugged to my body ... perfectly! The extra length also worked great with my "mommy tummy" and kept everything hidden. I also liked how stretchy the top was, just like the site promotes the four-way stretch fabric.

The Cantabria Capris were super comfy ... almost too comfy! I felt like I was running around in my pajama bottoms ... which I guess isn't a bad thing! These are also very stretchy and the elastic waist band was super stretchy and comfy. The wide waistline seemed a little higher than my usual activewear, but maybe that is just because they make everything so darn low-waisted these days. I enjoyed the extra tummy-support. The soft-suede material was cozy, but didn't make me warm. The calf cuffs also added some detail and slimmed my leg (as opposed to my usual gauchos).

I was very impressed. This outfit was a nice break from the typical bright colors and bold patterns that I wear. It was comfy and versatile and I didn't need to pull up the bottoms up or tug on the top, while I was out-and-about with my kids. One less thing to deal with during the day!!

Bondi Band Birthday Girl

Well, today I am a member of a whole new age group. At my next race, I will be a “30-34F” participant. Sigh. I must admit … 30 feels great!! I’m totally digging it. Bye-bye 20’s ….
It’s been a whirlwind of a weekend, complete with a birthday surprise at work, a shopping spree and dinner with my wonderful mom, and a HUGE surprise party on Saturday night, thrown by my thoughtful hubby (more on that soon …).

My mom spoiled me rotten on Friday night as we ran through the mall, and closed it. I found these great (off-brand) running outfits at JcPenney. They were a steal and on sale … $12 for bottom; $17 for top. I wore both numbers now and loved them just as much as my Nike Tempo running shorts. They even have an inner pocket for your nutrition.

My neighbor (who isn’t a runner) ordered me this cute 26.2 running cap (of course, in pink!)

I received a beautiful Bondi Band from Christina (HERE) and continue to be amazed by the thoughtfulness in bloggy-world. Christina is a real sweetheart and I was really touched by the Bondi Band and card I received. Thanks, Christina!!!!

I also received this great Birthday Girl Bondi Band directly from Rebecca at Bondi Band. I love it and am sporting it out on my birthday six-miler today. My mom is taking the kids and I out to breakfast and is watching them so that I can run solo today.

30
feels great!!!!!

Running Chics Product Review & Giveaway

I was ecstatic to be given the opportunity to try out some awesome products from Running Chics (HERE). Are you a Running Chic??????? .... keep reading ....

The Running Chics website claims that this t-shirt is "slim fit with extra body length. Ideal for layering" ... and that is EXACTLY how I would describe it. It fit me perfectly and slimmed up my mommy-tummy. It was also long and hid everything as I played outside with the kids and bent over to clean up their toys in the yard (yeah, they weren't much for helping that afternoon). I wish all of my t-shirts fit exactly like this.

Check the t-shirt out online (HERE). I could not get a decent self-photo of my booty with the adorable logo on the butt. You NEED to check it out online. This shirt comes in so many awesome, bold colors, too! And, at only 20 bucks, it's a steal!

The logo is adorable and some dad at the park even commented on how clever it was. Clever is cool.
Since you know I have my obsession with Bondi Bands, I KNEW I wanted to try out their dry-wicking Running Chics headband. L-O-V-E It!!
It really was hard choosing what to try out, as they have so many cool, and trendy, options on their website. Here are some things you might be interested in:
I used my new Running Chics bag at the farmer's market and Little Diva and I collect tons of produce!!
Running Chics also offers a line of Little Running Chics clothing for the Little Divas in your life. Check them out HERE.

Bellybar Product Review & Giveaway

I recently had the opportunity to try out some yummy bars and shakes from Bellybar.

You can visit Bellybar online HERE.

When I was pregnant, I had always seen these on the shelves at Babies R Us (they are now also available at Target!), but never treated myself. I wish I had. I was always more concerned about loading up on diapers or the newest fad on toys or accessories for the kiddos.

I tried Bellybars in S'Mores to Love and Baby Needs Chocolate. These were Sa-weet! Yum, yum! I'm a s'mores-freak and loved this one tremendously. And, a girl can never get too much chocolate ... so I was all over both of these. I had them with my coffee for a quick breakfast. For those of you that are preggers, these would be great with a side of decaf! Each bar was filling and satisfying.

The Bellybars Support:
  • Baby's Healthy Brain Function
  • Bone Health for Mom & Baby
  • Enhanced Immune Function
Bellybars are recommended to complement your prenatal vitamins.

Check out all of the Bellybar products HERE. They offer bars, chewables and shakes. At about 170 calories each, they are well worth the 1.5 mile investment on the road!!

Now don't start any rumors, I'M NOT EXPECTING!!!! But, Bellybars are nutrition for before, during and after pregnancy. Wherever you fall, here, why not try one out?!?!?
Wanna try this out?!?!? YUM!
