We ended up using the pass only four times this summer. But, that means that we were able to experience four of the beautiful state parks from different areas of Wisconsin. They were all a little different, and a lot of fun.
On Labor Day, we decided to end summer with a trip up to Devil's Lake State Park (HERE). We took the Merrimac Ferry (HERE) from Sauk to Columbia County. The free ferry takes your family and your vehicle on a seven minute journey across the Wisconsin River.
I loved this image of my little pink GPS car driving into water. It actually said "board ferry" when we got to the river and then "exit ferry" as we exited the boat!
"Flat Stanley" (HERE) comes with us on many of our journeys
(decorated by Little Diva)
... and a little Diet Mtn Dew!
We even hiked for an hour or so, exploring some trails ...
(along with other 'explorers')
(very slowly)
... sooooo cool ....
Did you have any fun, family adventures

It was definitely a fun, little family adventure. Something new that we could all experience together. I can't wait to see all of the things that we'll explore together, as the kids get older. We seem to be able to do a little more every year. And, I'm becoming a little bit more of a nature girl as each year passes. Running seems to have connected me more with the outdoors. I appreciate my surroundings and nature so much more now.
Heck, I may even be willing to go camping next year!! I have NEVER been camping, but that is on my 'bucket list'. Do they make pink tents and leopard print sleeping bags?!?!
Did you have any fun, family adventures
over the holiday weekend?
Looks like a great trip!
ReplyDeleteWe've done trips to Devil's Lake SP for the last 4 years straight (we're from IL). Great seeing pics of the places we've been while there....it's like a trip down memory lane! If you go back, you can do some great snorkeling in the water just beside the train tracks. There's a great hike too - Parfrey's Glen (1st natural area in the state). It's a good hike with kids (beautiful, but not too far!) Glad you had a fun visit!
ReplyDeleteLooks like so much fun. I'm not sure if we've been on that ferry yet, but I'm sure we will sometime soon if we haven't as Beer Geek makes me ride on ferries anytime he can find them LOL.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love Flat Stanley tag-alongs! What a great photo. Scratch that! They were all great. Sounds like a perfect outing.

ReplyDeleteHey, who is that woman in all of the photos in this post? You know, the one without a Bondi Band!! ;)
ReplyDeleteCrossing the Merrimac Ferry was always a fun thing to do with the kids when they were younger. Great to expore the parks. We have some great ones.
ReplyDeleteVisiting your blog via Tall Mom. We love state parks, and we love Wisconsin. We took three different trips there this summer. Devil's Lake was on my list of camping possibilities for this summer's trip with my friends, but its campground was booked through next May. I don't plan that far in advance!!
ReplyDeleteOur last trip was this past weekend to Sparta, where I had a great 10 mile run (my first double digit run!) with my brother on the La Crosse River Trail.
Love Devil's Lake!
