Stronger Strength Training Playlist

Need to mix up your strength training routine? The next time you are working on your arms, pushing those legs or strengthening your core ... push yourself to my Stronger Strength training playlist.

Replacing your running shoes

Ever wondered how often you should be replacing your running shoes?  This is a general guide to figure out when it's time for a new pair - based on your mileage. Always consult a professional at your local running store and listen to your body to prevent injury. The general rule is to replace your running shoes every 300-600 miles. Walking and running mileage both count towards wear.

Hey moms, you are worth it!!

Did you set a crazy goal after the new year ... think you can't achieve it?
Did you register for a race that scared you ... are you still scared?
Think you're too busy with everyone else's commitments ... that there's no time left for you?

I'm here to show you that your goals are possible. Your dreams can be a reality - and will be. And that you are worth it. The time is there, you just have to find it.

I'm a busy mom of three with two day jobs, a thriving coaching business, three busy kids (ranging from 2-14 yrs) and an understanding spouse who supports it all. I am not a natural-born runner, but have completed more than 60 half marathons & 14 marathons in the past decade. I love showing other women that they are capable of anything and motivating them throughout their journey.

If you're in need of a custom training program - running, walking or for that scary first marathon - I'd love to work together to develop a schedule that will work with your family's schedule. I will also check in with you weekly for the duration of your program.

Girl, Wash Your Face | Book Review

If you are looking for some motivation during the dreary month of February, "Girl, Wash Your Face" gave me a kick in the butt.  Rachel Hollis is the lifestyle author at The Chic Site and I've been identifying with her words for the past couple of weeks. I received an advance review copy of her new book and .... it rocks, people! I eagerly flipped through page after page until this mama was up way too late past her bedtime.

Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis
In each chapter Hollis reveals a lie she once believed about herself. Self-doubts as a mother, wife, friend ... woman. She shares the deepest stories of struggle and triumph and then reveals her tips that helped her overcome those feelings about herself.  I laughed and I even cried a little bit as I read her raw emotions on paper.

I identified with her as a busy mompreneur and long-distance runner who is constantly learning about herself, how to push boundaries and how to "do it all" while making your family, your spouse .... and yourself happy in the process.  I loved this book and already know who I'm sharing my copy with.

Whether you are struggling with finding a fitness routine, finding balance or finding yourself ... you will enjoy "Girl, Wash Your Face". Rachel has shared her gifts of honesty, humor and motivation all in one book. Go enjoy it ...

Not talented; just tough.

I came across this quote (from Gymaholic) recently and I can't stop thinking about it. I really identify with it.

Quote: Gymaholic

Like many of us, I hated running the mile in gym class. I thought it was because I wasn't a "runner" or an athlete. I told myself that it was too hard and it must be easier for everyone else. That little girl just didn't know how to push herself outside of her comfort zone. I was too shy to try out for extra-curricular activities, until my parents nudged me along to do so. Even then I only went through the motions and never really put in the effort. I am not a naturally-gifted athlete. I didn't like playing basketball in junior high school. My stomach turned as I was in line to bat in gym class. I was awkward on the tumbling mat. I was not coordinated enough to hit a tennis ball. I was not driven enough to chase a soccer ball down the field either.

As an adult, I've learned a lot about myself.  I was right ... I am NOT a naturally-talented runner. I'm not a gifted athlete. The awkwardness and the fight are what make the journey so rewarding for me. I work hard at it every day. I show up. I push. I struggle. I improve. I see results.

I put in the work.  I do what I ask of myself. I can do "hard stuff".

Life has thrown me several curve balls over the past decade -- in and out of my running shoes. I've struggled, I've learned, I've grown. But I never gave up. Running has proved to me that I am stronger than any obstacle that stands in my way. I don't have to better than anyone else. I don't have to be faster than the girl next to me at the gym. I don't have to outrun everyone else on the trail. I'm competing with myself and the obstacles that stand in my way.

I'm not talented. I'm tough.

2017 Mileage

So ... I ran a total of 1,550 miles in 2017. This was my highest mileage year ... ever (in twelve years) ... despite being forced to rest for seven weeks this fall. I use to feel really accomplished if I reached 100 miles in a month, maybe closer to 130 with good weather and an open schedule. But I hovered around or above 150 miles during many months this past year. I'm proud of all I accomplished and learned. I had a good pace (pun intended!) up until the point of my injury mid-October. I coached ... a lot. I ran about 5-6 days a week, sometimes 2-3 times a day with clients. I ran 2-3 hours most days, but only got in 4-6 miles during that time. Running was different for me last year. Mileage by myself was limited, except for a long run approximately once a month and some low miles with the stroller.

I am thankful for 2017 and for all who joined me during some of my 1,550 miles. Thank you for joining me and for allowing me to be a part of your journey.

Congratulations to Darcey B, who won a free entry into the January Women Working on Wellness Accountability group, by guessing 1,500. You all set the bar REALLY high with your guesses at my mileage!

January - 127
February - 127
March - 143
April - 174
May - 178
June - 123.2
July - 157.5
