Amazing Grass Product Review & Giveaway

Hubby and I had the opportunity to try out some Super Foods and Whole Food Bars from Amazing Grass (HERE). I’ve read about their products on other blogs and was intrigued. Hubby is really into breakfast shakes and I am always interested in adding new meal bars to my rotation. They are both an easy way to get fueled during a busy morning with the kids. Meal bars are also very portable. You can store them in your desk drawer and not have to think about preparation before work.

The Amazing Grass mission is “to help people lead healthier more active lives by achieving their full potential through better nutrition. We strive to educate the world by spreading the word about the amazing benefits of cereal grasses. Amazing Grass will spare no resources or expense to produce nutritionally superior products with the highest quality organic cereal grasses available anywhere in the world.” Their vision is “to enhance peoples lives by connecting health, nutrition, and the environment.”.

I often “THINK” I’m eating healthy, by watching my portions, and looking at fat, protein, carbohydrate and calorie content. But, in reality, I am usually fueling myself with a lot of junk. I’m not checking out the ingredients. Amazing Grass allowed me to take a step back and think about what I’m fueling my body with.

Having a child in daycare and another in elementary school, it is essential that mommy stays healthy! When the kids bring something home, mommy can’t catch it, too. With flu season right around the corner, any parent can surely benefit from the immune-boosting support herbs and friendly pre & probiotics in their products.

Amazing Grass Green SuperFood Drink Powders (available in Chocolate and Natural) are Certified Organic. 100% vegan. These powders mix easily with water and will help you meet your recommended 5 to 9 daily servings of fruits and vegetables … in just one serving!! You can also mix it into smoothies or in fruit juice. It also has been reported to taste well in milk. Visit the Amazing Grass website for some delicious recipes.

I mixed the drink powders with both water and milk. They seemed to mix more easily with the skim milk than the water and tasted better with the milk as well. I expected this to be the case. The packaging includes a tip that the powder dissolves best when mixed with one ounce of water prior to adding milk. I did not try that. I preferred the chocolate powder over the natural flavor. Also what I expected. It didn’t exactly taste like chocolate milk, but it tasted fine. At only 35 calories a serving, it was a nice change from plain skim milk. I also tried this heated up (like hot cocoa). It was a really nice afternoon treat for fall. Hubby tried out the chocolate powder and didn't like it so much. He's use to his super sweet protein shakes (think peanut butter or cookies-n-cream).

Whole Food Energy Bars (available in Peanut Butter Protein, Chocolate, Berry and Natural) are convenient and portable. They are unprocessed, alkaline, organic and gluten-free. The bars are filled with 2/3 of a serving of the Amazing Grass Green SuperFood drink powder. Since the human body is designed to get nutrition from whole foods, the body is able to efficiently and rapidly absorb the nutrients in Green SuperFood and quickly convert them to energy to fuel your body. Perfect for your workouts.

I ate one of these bars as a snack one day and another as my breakfast (with a banana and coffee). My first impression of the bars was that the texture is a little different than what I’m use too and the inside of the bar was green (again, a little different). The bars were not as sweet as the bars I typically eat. But, they weren’t a turnoff. I think my palate could adjust. The bars were higher in calories (over 250) than my typical meal replacement bar. But, the one I ate for breakfast kept me filled up for the entire morning (along with the banana). I typically reach for a snack around 10 am to tie me over until lunch, but I didn’t. I still felt satisfied from breakfast.
