Mile 1,000 .....

Well, this weekend I ran MILE ONE THOUSAND for the year!!! Since I started running in 2005, this will be my fourth year in a row over 1,000 miles. I had set the bar high again this year, to reach 1,500 miles by December 31st (like I did last year). It's not looking likely, but I will come close to reaching my goal. It's not like I want to KILL myself to get another five hundred miles in this year. I want to ENJOY THE JOURNEY. Like I said, life is all about balance right now ... and running is still apart of my life ... despite the obstacles, blessings, and distractions. So, I'm happy with everything I've accomplished ... will accomplish ... in 2011.

Running is something that I can control. I can decide to head out the door and do it. Or, I can decide to do something else that I would enjoy much more at the moment. Usually I opt to run. I have never regretted a run and tell my clients the same thing. But honestly, sometimes I don't do it. I've been running 5-6 days a week this year, very consistently. But, if plans come up with a friend or bedtime routine with the kids takes longer than usual and I don't get my 9 pm run in on the treadmill ... there is always tomorrow. There is always another day to log those miles. And, obviously those events that guided me away from my training program and my daily running routine weren't obstacles. They were LIFE. And, I logged those 1,000 miles around LIFE.

I control my journey.

And, I control my destination.

Where is your journey
taking you?????

...... BIG or small ......
What did YOU
accomplish this weekend??

  3. Congrats on mile 1000! My big accomplishment this weekend was heading out on my new bike. I haven't been on a real bike since I was 12, so taking "The General" (hehe) out in traffic was a big freaking step.

  6. CONGRATS on the miles - that's awesome!!!

I accomplished a thoroughly lazy weekend with no running miles - okay travel had some to do with that. Life does tend to get in the way some times and I accept that and move forward.

  8. Congrats on 1000! I used your "I've never regretted a run" mantra a few days ago when all I WANTED to do was veg out in front of the tv after a stressful day at work. I also have never regretted a run (even the super slow ones that end up being more "walk" than "run"), but I have almost always regretted NOT going when clearly I had the time to do it. It is the ultimate stress reliever!

  9. Congrats! And yes, life happens. My life is also completely crazy. While I have to sometimes mesh running around life, it gives me a response to people who say they are too busy!
