Alone in the gym.

After my recent edition of coaching for the Couch to 5K program, the ladies were interested in continuing some sort of training group together ... and gaining support from one another during the Wisconsin Winter months. A local 24 hr fitness facility was gracious enough to offer us all limited time, no contract, super affordable rates. They are also allowing me to coach indoors, which is very exciting to all of us! Many even signed up family members and friends. I love seeing them at the gym with their spouses and children; all being active together as a family.

I have a treadmill at home. But, when I'm kidless .... I love having the social outlet and being around like-minded people while I run my nightly 3-4 miles. I also am excited about the opportunity to try out some new equipment, work on strength training, focus on my upper body, and indulge in tanning.

But, sometimes I show up and it isn't a social outlet at all ... I'm all alone .....

  • I often think that I should try running one mile on each of the treadmills, just to be comical.

  • I sing loudly to my explicit hip-hop tunes on my iPod, while I run mile-after-mile

  • I enjoy making a fool out of myself (to the cameras) while I test out the eliptical machine, which I apparently am not coordinated enough for.

  • Text to my friends to pass time while I'm on the machines. (I've always been a good multi-tasker.)

  • Don't worry if I'm flashing anyone behind me in my running skirt.

  • Enjoy having complete control of what is on tv ... all four of them.

  • I ponder using free-weights and grunting loudly, cuz I'm a tough chick.

What would you do

if you had a

whole gym to

  1. Seriously?! I've never been in an empty gym? Pretty sure that might feel kinda spooky wierd...

  2. I would do sprints around the gym! Why not, there isn't anyone there to tell you to stop. www.dashingdiva.net

  3. I would completely sing & dance with wild abandonment! I do this a little anyway, but when I know there are people who are likely going to look or stare I keep it to a bare minimum.

Not to mention I could make clothing & body adjustments without anyone seeing me. No looking around & trying to discreetly get comfortable.

  4. I haven't seen the inside of a gym in awhile. I would probably run around trying out everything.

  5. It would never happen, since I go to the Y. But, if I did, I would definitely want to try out everything! LOL

  6. Oh man! I would LOVE to have the gym all to myself. Normally, when I actually go, there's just one treadmill or eliptical open and it's next to the nastiest, loudest person in the place. I force myself to go run in the cold and make up my own circuit workouts most of the time.

  7. I rarely use a gym except at a hotel when traveling and back when I was a trainer/instructor and worked there. But I would sing out loud too. I do that at home some time. Until the kids ask me to stop. ;-)

  8. I would love to have a whole gym to myself! I hate people watching me! Haha! :) Thank you so much for stopping by my blog and following!

  9. The old gym I used to belong to, I often had it to myself at 4am. I just threw the TV on and jumped on a machine. I guess I'm not very adventurous :)!

  10. This never happens to me since, I use the gym at the University of Florida and its normally packed, specially around 5pm which I call circus time... But I would definitely try pull ups, I can't do more than 1 maybe with no one watching I could do 2-4
