Reading

One of my goals for 2011 was to read more .... or at all! I have NEVER been a reader. I was actually inspired by Little Diva's mad reading skills and enthusiasm for reading to get myself started. That girl can fly through a Junie B Jones in no time.

After recommendation from several friends, I started reading Mr Maybe and have really been enjoying it. I now find it helpful to wind down with a book after the kids are in bed, chores are done and when I'm caught up with emails. After having a few weeks, with difficulty getting to sleep, reading immediately became my way to take a deep breath, settle in, and take a few quiet moments for myself (aside from the running). I now enjoy lighting a candle and sipping on ice water or hot cocoa, and getting lost in each chapter.

I visited my local thrift store recently and scored several paperbacks with their buy four, get one free deal. I purchased five books for less than ten bucks! Several were made into movies and I'm looking forward to seeing how the books compare.

What are some of your favorites titles?
Do you have a favorite
place that you like to sneak
away with a book?

  1. I love jane Green. I also love anything by Jennifer Crusie. I read a lot in the tub before I go to bed. It is such a "mind vacation"

  3. I'm reading "Water for Elephants" right now and really love it. I also love all the books my Jen Lancaster (they're nonfiction). She's hilarious. If you like Jane Green, you'd probably like Emily Giffin. I love reading, especially if it's an quick, easy read you can just enjoy :)

  4. I love reading. Some authors I like are Jennifer Weiner (chick lit) and Nevada Barr (murder mysteries). I love to sit up reading, sometimes way too late, after the girls go to bed.

  5. Oh buy 4 get 1 free! That’s a good deal especially at thrift store prices. I love to read but haven’t been doing much of it lately. I’ve been reading a series for awhile and the author just released a new book. I snatched it up but I’m holding off reading it until we head to Vegas for our wedding!

I see you picked up a Jane Green book……love her! If you come across Jamima J. you should read it. I could not put it down. It the only book I’ve ever finished in one day! My eyes were beat red by the end of the day but it was soooo good!

Thanks for checking in on me! You always leave the sweetest comments!

  10. Candace Bushnell (Sex and the City, Lipstick Jungle, Trading Up, One Fifth Avenue, Four Blondes)
Plum Sykes (Bergdorf Blondes, Debutante Divorcee)
Jodi Picoult is good, so many titles and so many tears. Seriously, she gets me almost every time.

I also like a lot of non-chick lit, but for someone who is just getting into the reading thing chick lit is a GREAT area to sink yourself into for a good long while. It's easy, you can put it down and walk away if you have to (essential as a Mommy!), and always mindless enough to give you that much sought-after great escape.

    Enjoy!!!

  12. I love to read - Janet Evanovich & James Patterson are two of my favorite authors. Agree with many of the others posters - reading is the best mental getaway. After running, of course. ;-)

  13. I have to say I love reading and I don't get to do it as much as I like when I am home however I have read several books in your pile and I have to say if you really want to see the movies see them first because after you read them you will not like the movies as much. I like a lot of different novels my fav writer is Mary Higgins-Clark and I am exploring new ones currently reading Eat, Pray, Love

  14. I cheat with audiobooks. I can get a workout in, household chores, and walk my dog, all while reading a good book. They're great for a long bicycle commute too. I always look for a book I'd like to read on audio first.

  16. Read "The Help." It is seriously a GREAT book. Also, www.goodreads.com keeps track of all the books you've read. I love to look back at the end of the year and see what all I have read. Enjoy your "new" hobby!

Try the Goodwill for discount books. Oh, and www.paperbackswap.com. Love both of those for cheap/free books. :)
