Post-Marathon "After Glow"

Well, I am one week out, post marathon #3. I had such a FABULOUS experience all around. The wonderful weekend out of town with hubby (much needed adult time), a well-organized race, a crushing PR and crossing that finish line with my hubby. I am still enjoying the moment. I believe I have had a permanent smile on my face for seven days straight.

You've seen my post-workout "after glow". Well, here is my post-marathon "after glow" ...

On Monday, as excpected, stairs were not my friend. I was moving slow. Very slow. I had to take stairs two baby steps at a time.

I enjoyed sporting my Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon 30th Anniversary shirt (gorgeous shirt by the way!) around and paired it with a black running skirt and my white CEP compression socks. I also accessorized with my 26.2 pendant from My Triathlon Jewelry (HERE). Perfect recovery outfit. Little Dude had decided that he now wants to be my running outfit photographer and enjoys grabbing my pink camera whenever he gets the chance ...
In this adorable recovery outfit, I stepped outside to a perfect day after lunch. Little Dude and I loaded up the stroller and were going to walk about 1.5 mi down to the pharmacy to load up some essentials we needed, then play at the playground and pick up Little Diva from school and walk home. Yeah. About that ...
Well, we got about 3/4 mile through the neighborhood. And, I had to stop. I was moving slow. and the backs for my legs were starting to buckle. What was I thinking??!! Instead of turning right to go to the pharmacy, I turned left and shuffled my way towards the playground. One mile of walking and my legs had had it. I had run 26.2 miles the day prior and now I couldn't even walk a mile. Just too hilarious not to share.
We now were at the playground and had approximately two whole hours until Little Diva needed to be picked up from school (next door). WOW. What were we going to do? That was the best two hours ever. Little Dude and I just relaxed at the park, swung together, chased squirrels, snacked, layed in the grass. Two hours flew by. We picked up Little Diva and yes, I was able to walk the mile back home. Slowly, but I did it.
I took the entire week off of work and had a wonderful well-balanced week. (some details to be posted soon). The fall weather in Wisconsin was GORGEOUS all week and I achieved BALANCE this week. I treated each day a little differently and focused on different things ... and people ... in my life. One day I focused on the house, one day Little Dude, one day Hubby, one day my Mom.
I ran two miles on Wednesday and Thursday and a 5K on Friday. I look forward to running longer distances again in the week ahead. I have a half marathon later this month, to keep me motivated and chugging along.
With no long training runs looming over my head all week ... I even enjoyed a little of this ...

    Love the glass.

I see from you race schedule on the side bar that you are running in the Haunted Hustle at the end of month. I signed up late - was on a waiting list - and just got confirmation this week that I got in. I will see you there. ;-)

  10. Love the outfit. The camera angles are great - just like the ones my little man takes of me.

You'll love getting back into longer distances. Take it easy when you start, though. You need a slow and easy 3 weeks.
